A snow storm has started here in Cedar Rapids, making this a good day to think about the year ahead.  One idea I implemented last year was to have a word for the year.  My word for 2020 was “FOCUS”.  It really did help me when I was heading down “bunny trails” and being distracted.

As you know, currently I’m reading “The Book of Beautiful Questions”.  John Maxwell also has a book called “Good Leaders Ask Great Questions”.  I really want to get better at asking questions and listening well.  So my word for 2021 is “QUESTIONS”.

Think about it and let me know if you have a word for 2021.  I’d love to talk with you about how you made your decision.

On the real estate front, interest rates just keep dropping!  If you haven’t had a reason to look lately, you should probably call your favorite mortgage lender to see if a refinance is in your future.  Many lenders are overwhelmed with the high demand, so if you aren’t getting a response, let me know.  Ruhl Mortgage does process refinance loans or there may be other options I could recommend for you.

Inventory of available homes continues to be very low.  Maybe this is the year to buy your first home, move up to give you that home office or more space for the kids, or maybe it’s time to downsize.  You may be one of the snowbirds who has decided to make a permanent move to warmer weather.  I’m happy to help you think through your options.  I can’t tell you how many times a seller has planned to sell in the spring and then by fall they are actually ready!  Let’s start the conversation now so you really can take advantage of the spring market.  Knowing the current value of your home, any updates that may or may not need to be made and understanding the competition and advantages of listing now or later are all good things we can go over.  You likely have repairs that need to be done due to the derecho, but there may be options that allow you to list now if that’s your desire.

Despite all the roadblocks and distractions of 2020, the Brockette Homes team had a very good year.  We thank each of you, whether you referred us, did business with us or provided your love and support… we couldn’t do it without you!

We hope you have a prosperous, healthy and love-filled 2021.  Happy New Year!
