It may not feel like spring, but warmer weather is just around the corner! And it’s time to celebrate Earth Day! More and more of our buyers are looking for homes with sunny spots for a garden. And gardening has so many benefits.
Why gardening is good for the environment:
- Cleans the air and soil.
- Replenishes and protects the soil.
- Reduces the size of landfills.
- Helps mitigate global warming.
- Protects local wildlife and pollinators.
If you have no space for a garden, here are some other ways to get fresh, homegrown produce:
Purchase fresh, locally-grown produce through Cultivate Hope Market.
Runs May 12 through Oct 6, 4-7pm on Thursday evenings.
Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmer’s Market
Starts May 28, then continues on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays through the summer.
Uptown Marion Farmer’s Market
2022 dates are: June 11, July 9, August 13 and September 24. Open from 8am to noon.
Baumhoefener’s Red Barn Market
Fresh produce grown on site for purchase, along with fruit and vegetables from local farmers and other local products. Open every day except Sunday.
Tell us about your Earth Day celebration activities, gardening experiences, favorite place for fresh produce and recipes! We’d love to hear from you.
