Believe it or not, after what seemed like a winter that would never end (I’m not sure it is over yet!) we are still experiencing a drought in Eastern Iowa. You can view the most recent conditions on the US Drought Monitor page. While conditions have improved significantly, we still need to be careful with our water usage.
The City of Cedar Rapids issued it’s Drought Contingency Plan late last month. You can see the complete 28 page document on the city’s website. You can also view a table that summarizes what is required in each stage of the drought. I encourage you to review this plan so you are familiar with what you need to do in case the drought level reaches alert, warning or emergency stages.

I’m glad our city has taken this proactive approach for dealing drought situations. I’ll happily follow their lead in conserving this precious natural resource.
